Avesh Khan Has Been A Revelation: Aakash Chopra Lauds The Rookie Pacer For His IPL 2021 Exploits

Former Indian opener-turned commentator, Aakash Chopra has heaped high praise on rookie Delhi Capitals pacer Avesh Khan, staring that the youngster turned to be a revelation.

Avesh Khan turned out to be one of the finds of the recently-concluded IPL season as he made the most of the opportunities he got in the absence of regular pacers like Ishant Sharma, Kagiso Rabada, and Anrich Nortje.

Whether it was with the new ball or the old ball, whenever Rishabh Pant turned to his rookie pacer, Avesh Khan did not disappoint as he claimed crucial scalps like that of Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni.

In 8 games, Avesh Khan picked up as many as 14 wickets-the second-most in the season- and his economy rate of 7.70 was the lowest among the leading wicket-takers in the competition.

“Avesh Khan has been a revelation. He has stood up and gotten counted again and again. He showed that he cannot be taken lightly. Right from the first match, you will see that Avesh Khan performed consistently well. Whether it was the new ball or the old one, whether it was the middle overs or the death overs, he has been very, very good,” Aakash Chopra said.

“He took the huge wickets. He dismissed Faf du Plessis, Dhoni, and Kohli. He consistently and regularly felled the best player in the opposition line-up. So, he was a huge contributor in Delhi Capitals’ success,” Aakash Chopra concluded.

Recently Avesh Khan, in an interview, revealed how head coach Ricky Ponting used to advise him to not waste the opportunities that come his way. He had also revealed how Ponting used to sit down and plan and plot on ways the pacer he can improve after every game.

”He told me to not waste the opportunity I was given. Before and after every game, he would sit with me and discuss plans and ways to improve. He wanted me to simply focus on the next game and not look at the tournament as a whole. The shorter my goals were, the more likely I was to achieve them. He encouraged me to back my strengths and follow my instincts,” said Avesh Khan.

Khan was recently rewarded for his IPL 2021 performances after he was picked as one of the standby bowlers for the upcoming England tour.
