Axar Patel lifts the lid on MS Dhoni's message after ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel has shared his admiration for legendary MS Dhoni and how his guidance played a key role in elevating his game ahead of his team’s IPL 2025 clash against the Chennai Super Kings on April 5 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Delhi Capitals have shared a video on their social media handle, where Axar Patel opened up about his bond with MS Dhoni and his influence on his game. The franchise also shared some of the memorable pictures of their captain with the legendary wicketkeeper in the video.

Axar Patel reveals heartfelt bond with MS Dhoni before DC vs CSK clash at Chepauk

The Indian all-rounder revealed that he received special messages from Dhoni when he won the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. Axar said in the DC video, “I have a very close connection with Mahi bhai. When he was captain of the Indian team, I used to share my thoughts with him. After the T20 WC & Champions Trophy, I got his message.”

The DC skipper further revealed how Dhoni’s presence as a mentor during the 2021 T20 World Cup made a big difference in his career. During that time, Axar spoke to Dhoni about his mindset, and the former Indian captain gave him helpful advice that worked wonders for him.

Axar further said, “He came as a mentor, and I shared my mindset with him. He spoke to me, guided me, and now you can see the results. The credit goes to Mahi Bhai for the changes you see today.”

The Capitals also shared a photo of Dhoni and Axar having a chat. Remembering that moment, Axar Patel recalled that Dhoni told him that sometimes things don’t go your way, but what matters is staying focused and knowing what to do next.

Axar Patel signed off by saying, “He was saying that your planets are moving a little here and there. He was sharing how sometimes you just get a good ball or something unexpected happens. What matters is knowing what needs to be done right.”

Axar’s DC eye hat-trick of wins against struggling CSK

Meanwhile, Axar Patel is playing his first IPL season as a full-time captain, and he has started the season on a strong note. Delhi Capitals won a nail-biting match against Lucknow Super Giants by just one wicket.

In their second game, they put up a solid performance by bowling out Sunrisers Hyderabad for 163 and then chased down the target easily in just 16 overs with seven wickets in hand.

The Capitals are currently sitting in the second spot in the IPL 2025 points table with four points, and now they will be aiming to continue their winning streak against the struggling Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on Saturday in their third clash of the ongoing season.

It will be an afternoon game in the burning heat of Chennai, and the kind of tracks on offer will certainly make it a 50-50 match. DC’s Kuldeep Yadav and CSK’s Noor Ahmed will certainly determine the result of the game, given the turning nature of the Chepauk surface.
