Pakistan National Cricket Team will be up against the England National Cricket Team for a three-match Test series which is scheduled to begin on August 19. Ahead of the Test series, Babar Azam has received a warning from the former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif. Babar was recently re-appointed as the Test captain and won a Test match away from home after three years.
The Men in Green recently won the second Test match against West Indies and drew the two-match series. Babar Azam’s second tenure as Test captain had a tough start as he lost the first Test match; however, he helped the side to win the second Test match as they ended an eight-match overseas Test losing streak by defeating the West Indies by eight wickets.
Rashid Latif drops key advice to Babar Azam ahead of England series
While speaking on Geo News, Rashid Latif said that Babar Azam should stay away from the English media. He believes that it will be a tough tour for the Men in Green and the English media often tries to create many controversies against the visiting team. He believes that former Pakistan captain Shan Masood should attend the media.
“An England tour is a difficult assignment, and the English media often tries to unnecessarily involve visiting teams in news stories,” Rashid said on Geo News’ Score.
“Babar Azam is an experienced player, so it would be better for the PCB management to keep him away from the English media and send former captain Shan Masood to speak to them more often. Shan has played in England and has better experience of dealing with the English media.”
Pakistan record at England
Pakistan will be touring England after nearly six years. They last toured England in 2020, winning 1-0. The last time Pakistan won a Test series in English conditions was back in 1996. It was Pakistan’s third consecutive series win in England.
They won a five-Test series 1-0 in 1987, a five-Test series 2-1 in 1992 and then the 2-0 win in the three-Test series in 1996. The Men in Green have a good record in England over the past decade, as Pakistan have won three and drawn two of the nine Tests they have played in the country during this period.
Babar Azam's record as captain
In the last Test series, Babar entered an elite list as he became the third Pakistani to lead the national team in 150 international matches. He is set to achieve the milestone at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain.
Above the current Test captain, only two cricketers have managed to captain the Men in Green side in 150+ matches across formats: Misbah-ul-Haq and Imran Khan.
Babar Azam has captained the Pakistan side in 85 T20Is, the most by any Pakistani cricketer. He has led the side in 43 ODI matches and 22 matches in the traditional format of the game. Babar has won 84 matches across formats as captain.
The England side are also in poor form, as they lost the last Test series against New Zealand, 1-2, and they are winless in the last three-Test series, as they lost to Australia, drew against India, and lost to the Kiwis.
