Babar Azam in big trouble: Mohsin Naqvi orders ‘major overhaul’ of Pakistan Cricket setup

PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi has made a few big statements after all fingers pointed at him behind Pakistan's loss in the first Test against Bangladesh at home. They have not won a Test match at home now since 2022.
In their most recent defeat, Bangladesh won the first Test by 10 wickets after they were given a target of just 30 runs in the second innings.
The hosts posted 448 batting first and decided to declare their innings. Bangladesh in response piled up 565 in their first innings and took a substantial 117-run lead.
The surface had played quite well till the penultimate day but there was enough wear and tear for the Bangladesh bowlers to exploit on the final day. Kudos to their bowlers who bowled in good channels and reaped the rewards.
Pakistan’s trouble against quality spin bowling came to the fore once again. The Bangladesh spinners took seven wickets. Meanwhile, the home team's decision to not include a spinner in their playing XI ultimately cost them.
Former Pakistan Cricketers Target Mohsin Naqvi
Mohsin Naqvi while speaking to the media on Monday promised to fix Pakistan cricket after their recent shambolic loss to Bangladesh at home.
“I will fix the issues in Pakistan cricket, God willing. And changes are on the way,” Naqvi said while talking to media
Recently, former skipper Mohammad Hafeez took a dig at Naqvi after his surgery comment after Pakistan's loss to India in the T20 World Cup 2024.
“Initially, I believed a minor surgery would suffice, but after this poor performance, it’s clear that a major overhaul is needed. The nation will soon witness substantial changes," Naqvi had said.
Over time there were hardly any changes made to Pakistan cricket. After the ODI WC debacle, they announced different captains for different formats, Shan Masood was named the Test captain, and Shaheen Shah Afridi was named T20I captain.
The team's performance across formats did not improve. Babar was then reinstated as the white-ball captain while Shan was retained as the Test captain. This move too has not paid dividends till now.
Naqvi insisted that things will change in Pakistan cricket and will not remain the same. “Remember my words that things will not remain the same and a lot is happening in the background,” he said without giving details.
However, he had now attracted criticism from all quarters with former cricketer Ahmed Shehzad saying that Naqvi does not have an idea of the game in a recent video on his Twitter handle.
Now, Shahid Afridi has also blasted Naqvi and taken a dig at him after he criticized the Shan Masood-led team's move to not include a spinner in the XI.
