Back Again After 9 Years Playing Ranji Trophy For My Lovely State – S Sreesanth Named In Kerala's Preliminary Ranji Trophy Squad

Speedster S Sreesanth has been selected in the 24-member preliminary squad of Kerala for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season and he is making a comeback in the side after 9 long years.

Sreesanth was last seen playing first-class cricket in 2013 and so far he has bagged 211 first-class wickets at an average of 35.80, an economy of 3.47 and a strike rate of 61.8.

Talking about his international numbers, Sreesanth has featured in 27 Tests, 53 ODIs and 10 T20Is for India and has bagged 87, 75 and 7 wickets. Also, if he makes it to the final line-up this will be for the first time since 2013 he will be playing first-class cricket.

The pacer was serving a lifetime ban from cricket for his alleged involvement in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal, however, his ban was reduced to 8 years which ended in September 2020.

After his inclusion in the squad Sreesanth took to Instagram to post a video with the caption:

“Back again after 9 years playing Ranji trophy for my lovely state #keralacricketassociation ..really grateful to each and everyone of u .lots of love and respect.”

Meanwhile, talking about the Kerala squad it will be led by Sachin Baby in the upcoming Ranji Trophy season and wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod will be his deputy. Previously, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare Trophy star batter, Sanju Samson had captained Kerala and they exited in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Robin Uthappa has not been named in the squad as he is yet to regain full match fitness, and Varun Nayanar is the second wicketkeeper-batsman, while Mohammed Azharuddeen has been overlooked. Also, the preliminary camp is set to take place in Wayanad from December 30.
