Veteran Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal’s availability for the one-off Test match against Afghanistan is doubtful due to the recurrence of his back injury. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is eagerly waiting for an update on Tamim Iqbal’s fitness before making a final call on his availability.
Tamim Iqbal recently complained of recurring back pain after a training session at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on June 7. The left-handed batter was rested as a precaution. The team management will take the final call on his availability before the Test match starts on June 14.

Bangladesh selection panel member Habibul Bashar expressed hope that Tamim Iqbal will recover and be available for selection before the start of the match.
“Yes, he is having some back pain and that is a concern,” Habibul Bashar told Cricbuzz on Monday.

“If there was a fracture or tear in that case you could say that he is out for two to four weeks but that is not the case with him and in the past we have seen that this pain had gone away. So we will have to wait and see and hope for the best,” he added.

Tamim did not train with his colleagues but participated in physical activities with BCB’s rehabilitation center director, Julian Calefato. He appeared to be in pain while practicing taking catches with trainer Nick Lee. He started his batting practice against the throw-down expert, but he never looked at his best.
Regular captain Shakib Al Hasan was ruled out of the match due to a finger injury. Litton Das, who led the national team in limited overs cricket, is all set to lead the Bangladesh team in the Test in Dhaka. If Tamim fails to regain his full fitness, backup opener Mahmudul Hasan will get a chance in the XI.
