BAN vs AFG: Twitter Reacts As Bangladesh Register Convincing Victory Over Afghanistan In Their World Cup 2023 Opener

Fans on X reacted after Bangladesh thumped Afghanistan by 6 wickets in the third match of the ICC World Cup 2023. The game took place at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala and it had Bangladesh written all over it as they dominated with bat and ball.  It was a staggering start to their campaign and they would now be confident going ahead into the tournament. 

The coin went in favour of Bangladesh and they opted to field first. It was an ideal start for Afghanistan with the bat as they had 47 runs opening partnership between Ibrahim Zadran (22) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (47). After the first wicket, Rahmat Shah (18) joined the keeper batter and the duo looked comfortable. 

But the wicket of Rahmat Shah triggered the collapse as Bangladesh bowlers, in particular spinners, were all over the Afghanistan batters. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (18) tried to hold the fort but he too couldn’t cash on the start they got. 

Bangladesh bowlers ran through the Afghanistan middle order and castled them from 83/1 to 156 all out. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan were the wreckers in chiefs as they both bagged three wickets each whereas apart from Mahmadullah every other bowler chipped in as well. 

Bangladesh didn’t have the kind of start they would’ve wanted as Afghanistan bowlers kept things tight and removed Tanzid Hasan (5) and Litton Das (13) early. The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side kept things tight after that as they bowled decent lines and lengths. 

But Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took their time and played decently well.  While the latter departed after scoring 57 runs, Shanto remained unbeaten at 59 as Bangladesh won the game by 6 wickets to kick start their tournament on high.
