Najmul Hossain Shanto looked all set for a big finish but got run out in a bizarre way. The southpaw played a reverse sweep to the short third man but the ball went straight to the fielder. He immediately called for a run but was sent back by his partner. He, however, slipped in the middle of the pitch and got run out.

Najmul Hossain Shanto came to bat when Bangladesh lost two back-to-back wickets and were tumbling at 63/2. He led the rescue charge for his team but once he was set he changed the complexion of the game along with Mehidy Hasan Miraz (112).

The duo stitched 215 runs together and took the game away from the opposition. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 104 runs off 105 balls and also smashed 9 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. His staggering innings saw Bangladesh post a total of 334 runs on the board.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, who recently became a father dedicated the ton to his son. He talked about his game plan and revealed that he batted as per the merit of the ball. The batter was also optimistic about his team defending the target. He explained:

“This hundred I dedicate it to my son. We weren’t worried about the two wickets, we played according to the situation and the merit of the ball. It’s a good tournament, it’s a challenging tournament, and that helped me a lot. It helps us to play international cricket as many foreign players are a part of it.

“The dressing room is good, we are lucky to play with legends like Mushfiq and Shakib. Miraz showed his character and batted really well. The pitch looks good, but we have a quality bowling attack, if we bowl to our strengths I think we can win this match.”

For Bangladesh, it’s a knockout game as they have lost against Sri Lanka and a loss in the ongoing game would eliminate them from the tournament.
