Bangladesh will be hosting Pakistan in a three-match bilateral series from Wednesday. The Bangla Tigers will be seen taking the field for the first time since their exclusion from the T20 World Cup 2026. The first ODI match of the series is scheduled to start at 1:45 PM IST and will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, Dhaka.

On the other hand, Pakistan, which had another poor T20 World Cup outing, will begin preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The Men in Green qualified for the Super 8 stages but failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

However, this format is different, and since the 2011 ODI World Cup, the side has failed to qualify for the semi-final in the ODI format as well. Pakistan even finished at the bottom of the table in the ICC Champions Trophy last year. The ODI team has also been in shallow waters in recent years.

Bangladesh Playing XI: Saif Hassan, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tawhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (c), Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed.

BAN vs PAK Match Key Battles:

This is the first time that a few players will be up against each other in this ODI series. So there would be some interesting match-ups to watch out for.

Sahibzada Farhan vs Rishad Hossain

Sahibzada Farhan has been in tremendous form during the T20 World Cup 2026. He finished off as the leading run scorer with 383 runs in the tournament. However, his team failed to qualify. He would be making his ODI debut against Bangladesh on Wednesday and would try to continue with the same form.

However, Rishad Hossain would be a great match-up for the flamboyant opener, as the leg-spinner has been known for his tight lines and good skillfull bowling. Rishad Hossain would trouble Farhan, as in Bangladesh, the pitches tend to slow and are rank turners.

Najmul Hossain Shanto vs Haris Rauf

Najmul Hossain Shanto, the former captain of the Bangladesh team, has been one of the finest batters for the side. Shanto would be looking to gain some form as the team has not played many ODI games in recent times.

The pace of Haris Rauf, who will give Shanto some trouble. The speedster has not been at his best of form in recent times and was dropped from the T20 World Cup squad. However, Rauf would be eager to bring his best out in the first game against the Bangla Tigers and put the side on the back foot.

Mohammad Rizwan vs Mustafizur Rahman

Mohammad Rizwan only plays two formats for Pakistan. He has been dropped from the T20 format. However, has kept his place in the ODI format. Rizwan would be taking up the glove work and would also need to do some batting on a pitch that would be slow and turning.

Mustafizur Rahman would try to use his cutters and pace-off deliveries on a pitch that tends a bit slow and holds up a little bit. The left-arm pacer's match-up with Rizwan would be a key battle as the speedster would not let the wicket-keeper batter score easy runs in the middle overs of the game.

BAN vs PAK Key Players:

Bangladesh: Najmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (c), Rishad Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman.

Pakistan: Sahibzada Farhan, Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf.
