Bangladesh announce test squad against Pakistan; Tanzid Hasan and Amite Hasan to make debut in red-ball format

Bangladesh have announced their squad for the first match against the Pakistan team, which will be a red ball contest and part of the two-match series that is scheduled to be part of their ICC World Test Championship campaign.

The Pakistan team had visited them the last time for an ODI series, and the home team, the Bengal Tigers, had dominated them single-handedly. However, now they will return for the red ball series for the two matches in the month of May.

The two matches are scheduled to be played between Bangladesh and Pakistan at the home ground of the Bengal Tigers. The first match is scheduled between the 8th and 12th of May at the Sher-e-Bangla International Stadium in Dhaka, and the second one between the 16th and 20th of May at the Sylhet International Stadium.

Bangladesh have announced their new squad for the upcoming two-match red ball series against the Pakistan side, which will be part of the World Test Championship schedule for the two teams who have never qualified for the finals of the competition.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, the renowned star, has been named as the skipper of the team, while Mushfiqur Rahim, the veteran wicket-keeper batter, has been added to the squad as well. Also, the deck of fast bowlers will add to the glory of the side.

Pakistan's chances in this WTC 2025-27 cycle

Pakistan have never been able to finish even in the top half of the World Test Championship table despite being part of the competition since the first-ever season. However, ending their long drought of wins, they started their winning streak from the previous season.

Pakistan, under their skipper Shan Masood, went on to win a match to start their campaign against South Africa in this edition of the competition. They are looking to cash in on this edition of the competition. While Pakistan are currently in the 5th position in the WTC points table.

Bangladesh's fortunes in World Test Championship 2025-27

Bangladesh, on the other hand, is reviving from their blunder committed ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup when they did not participate in the competition due to a massive clash with the BCCI and the ICC.

They will be looking to capitalize the most on this occasion, though, in a very different format of the game. The red ball format has been a format where the Bangla Tigers have surprised them in recent times, especially during their last tour to Pakistan.

The Bangla Tigers, after two games, have managed just one loss and one draw in the season and are currently placed 9th in the points table.
