The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to summon former women’s team skipper Rumana Ahmed for targeting the team management for her exclusion from the squad. Rumana wasn’t included in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, which consists of three ODIs and as many T20Is.
Rumana Ahmed has been part of the Bangladesh set-up since her international debut against Irelandin November 2011. She was dropped from the national team for the first time in 12 years. The all-rounder played a crucial role for Bangladesh in the Women’s Asia Cup 2018, where they beat India in the final match to claim their maiden title.
BCB Women’s Wing Chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel said that they will call Rumana after Eid for an explanation for his words. Safiul said that they wanted to take action as there would be no more similar actions from other players.
“We will call her (Rumana) after Eid for [an] explanation and as this is the first time she did something like this, we will give her verbal warning,” BCB Women’s wing chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel told Cricbuzz on Saturday (April 22).
“I have gone through her statement and it won’t get unnoticed. We need to do something with it to leave an example for others as we don’t expect a senior cricketer to talk in this manner,” he said.
Rumana Ahmed said that senior players do not get respect in the dressing room in Bangladesh. She noted that in other countries, their fitness is not discussed because they are treated for their experience rather than their fitness.
“Look this is going on for long time (seniors are not welcomed) as the vibe is now time is for juniors and it is a natural thing in Bangladesh and it is nothing new. I think in our country, we are lacking when it comes to respecting seniors and you will see in other countries seniors are treated for their experience and there is not much talk about their fitness,” Rumana Ahmed said.
