The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), as per reports in Cricbuzz, is uncertain about sending its players to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) due to national commitments.

Three Bangladesh players namely Mustafizur Rehman, Shoriful Islam, and Taskin Ahmed have enrolled themselves for the auction. Meanwhile, veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has opted to withdraw himself from this year’s auction.

Mustafizur has a base price of INR 2 Crore while Taskin and Shoriful were bracketed at INR 75 Lakh and INR 50 Lakh respectively. However, BCB is unwilling to make them available for the entire season to avoid a conflict of interest with the national team. The board is also willing to ensure that their bowlers stay fresh for next year’s T20 World Cup.

The IPL 2024 is scheduled to begin on March 24 while Bangladesh will host Sri Lanka. The Lankans are expected to arrive in Bangladesh in the first week of March instead of the last week of February to accommodate the BPL 2024 season. The BAN vs SL series will be for two Test matches followed by three ODIs and T20Is respectively. Bangladesh are scheduled to host Zimbabwe for two Tests along with five T20Is in April and May.

BCB Unwilling To Send Their Players to Play In IPL 2024

“If the IPL conflicts with our national team in that case their (cricketers picked in the IPL players auction) chances are very slim to play the full tournament,” BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus told Cricbuzz on Friday.

“Furthermore, there is World T20 in June and we want to be careful in handling them as we need to think about their injury management and for that reason we want to take steps by taking everything into consideration,” he added.

Mustafizur has played in the IPL before for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, and Rajasthan Royals. Meanwhile, Taskin Ahmed lost his opportunity to play in IPL 2022 after BCB did not allow him to play in the league as LSG wanted him to sign up as Mark Woods’s replacement after the England pacer was ruled out with injury.
