Bangladesh Playing 11 vs Sri Lanka – ICC World Cup 2023, Match 38

Bangladesh takes on Sri Lanka in their penultimate league game in Delhi on November 6 Monday. The match starts at 2 pm IST. The Tigers have already been eliminated from the tournament.

They lost six games on the trot. Bangladesh played their last two games in Kolkata against the Netherlands and Pakistan and lost both of them. In the process, they missed a shot at direct qualification for the Champions Trophy 2025 to be played in Pakistan.

Bangladesh have looked like a dismantled unit with nothing clicking for them so far in the tournament. They have looked well below par and have not played to their potential. Each of their six losses have been by big margins which is why they find themselves ninth on the points table.

They have a limited set of players to choose from as none of them looks to be in form. There is no in-form batter and bowler in the side, unlike other teams which is why The Tigers find themselves in a rut. At best, they can spoil Sri Lanka’s chances of qualification if they win their next game.

Meanwhile, the alarming air pollution levels in Delhi did not allow the Bangladesh team to practice on November 3. Both teams have expressed their objection to playing at the venue given the rise in smog. However, the BCCI and the ICC have said that the match will be played as per schedule with no update on any chance of venue.

Litton Das

Litton should open the batting. He is one of the more experienced batters in the side. he scored 45 in the game against Pakistan in Kolkata in their last game. Das should look to give his team a good start.

Nazmul Hossain Shanto

Shanto should open the batting with Das in Tamim’s absence. He bats best as an opener. The Bangladesh management has been guilty of sending him down the order in previous matches where he did not bat at his best.

Shakib Al Hasan (C)

Shakib should bat at three. He batted at number six against Pakistan and scored 43. The skipper has been guilty of pushing himself too far down the batting order in this World Cup. He has taken seven wickets and scored just 104 runs so far in the tournament.

Mushfiqur Rahim (WK)

Rahil should bat at four and bat along with Shakib and control the scoring in the middle overs. So far in the tournament, he has scored 171 runs from six games. He is two short of 100 ODI sixes.

Towhid Hridoy

Hridoy the young and talented batter should bat at five. He is one of the upcoming cricketers of Bangladesh rising from U-19 cricket. Against Pakistan, he scored just 7 and has a chance to make up against Sri Lanka.

Mahmudullah Riyad

Mahmudullah should bat at six. He scored 56 against Pakistan. He’s the top-scorer for Bangladesh in the tournament so far with 274 runs in seven matches at an average of nearly 70 with a century against South Africa.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz

Miraz should bat at eight. He has been asked to bat up and down the batting order. So far in this tournament he has scored 169 runs and picked up nine wickets. Against Pakistan, he picked up 3/60.

Mustafizur Rahman

The Fizz will lead the Bangladesh bowling attack. He has not bowled as well as he would have liked in the tournament so far. Against Pakistan, he went wicketless. He has just picked up four wickets so far in this tournament.

Taskin Ahmed

Taskin will be the second seamer in the lineup. He bowled a spell of none for 36 against Pakistan in six overs. So far in this World Cup, he has picked up four wickets. He is six short of 100 ODI wickets.

Shoriful Islam

Shoriful can be the third seamer in the Bangladesh lineup. He bowled just four overs against Pakistan and went wicketless. He is seven short of 50 ODI wickets. He can swing the ball both ways.

Nasum Ahmed

Nasum Ahmed, the left-arm spinner can be added to the Bangladesh XI to bolster their spin attack. He can come in for opener Tanzid Hasan. His left-arm spin will be useful on the Delhi track.
