The first T20 international of the five-match T20 series between New Zealand and Bangladesh saw the latter registering their first win over New Zealand in the shortest format on Wednesday. A second-string New Zealand team looked clueless on a slow pitch as they got bundled out of just 60 runs in the first inning after winning the toss and opting to bat first. This is now New Zealand’s lowest ever total in T20 cricket.

New Zealand debutant Cole McConchie struck on his very first ball in the second innings to give his team some hope. Ajaz Patel then took the wicket of Titon Das in the fourth over to leave New Zealand at 7 for 2 in 3 overs.
However, Shakib Al-Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim then ensured Bangladesh don’t suffer a collapse as the duo stitched a good-looking partnership. Shakib Al-Hasan eventually got out on 25 off 33, however, Bangladesh had scored 37 runs by then. Skipper Mahmudullah then joined hands with Rahim and the duo guided the team home with 5 overs remaining. Mahmudullah and Rahim stayed unbeaten on 14 and 16 respectively.
