On Wednesday (20th January), the hosts Bangladesh will face the visitors West Indies at Shere Bangla National Stadium (Mirpur, Dhaka) in the opening game of the three-match ODI series.
This ODI series will be the part of the 2020–23 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. Meanwhile, it will be their first international meeting after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, where Bangladesh beat the Caribbean team by 7 wickets at Taunton.

Finally, Bangladesh are returning to the international cricket. Their last international match was against Zimbabwe during Dhaka T20I on 11th March 2020. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, Bangladesh didn’t play a single international match for over last 10 months. But this Asian country is now ready to host West Indies.
This ODI series against West Indies will be Bangladesh’s first ODI series in the 2020–23 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, which is part of the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup qualification process. To direct qualify for the next ODI World Cup, this Asian team need to take this ODI series very seriously and win it.
Talking about the present situation, Bangladesh are taking this ODI series very seriously. Though their former captain Mashrafe Mortaza is not in this ODI squad, they have well-balanced and experienced ODI squad. More importantly, one of the top-class all-rounder in international cricket, Shakib Al Hasan has returned to the international cricket after completing his suspension period.

While it is an important series for them in the contest of direct qualification for the next ODI World Cup, many top Caribbean cricketers decided to not travel in this Asian country due to COVID-19 pandemic.
So, the Caribbean team is very new-looking and inexperienced side. The team game will be very crucial for this side to beat the strong hosts, especially in ODI cricket.
