"Plus Point That We Won the Series Without Our Star Players" – Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan was overjoyed with his team’s performance in the T20I series against Australia and called it a confidence-booster going into the upcoming matches. While missing players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, and Liton Das, Bangladesh managed to swat the Aussies aside in a whopping 4-1 victory margin.
In the aftermath of the game, the player-of-the-match in the final T20I, Shakib, was happy and explained that runs don’t matter as long the team keeps winning. There is a T20 World Cup coming up this year and any win is ideal for their confidence going forward, as per Shakib.
“Even though the scorecard doesn’t show it but it would definitely make us much more confident for the upcoming World T20. There is also an upcoming series against New Zealand. I think it will be good preparation. Maybe the batsmen wouldn’t be able to score many runs, as we’ve been playing on slow, low, and turning wickets, but at the end of the day, winning is the most important (thing).”

“If we have confidence in ourselves, then the morale of the team will also be at a higher place, and our winning mentality will grow in the process. We feel an added motivation to play against the teams that don’t often tour Bangladesh regularly. After a successful tour of Zimbabwe, every one of us was motivated that they have to play well in this series as we had never won a series against Australia,” he revealed.
“Naturally, we will become more competitive when other players return” – Shakib Al Hasan
A couple of senior players, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim were absent from the series due to different reasons. This didn’t affect the team as the replacements pulled their weight in the series. As soon as the unavailable players return, Shakib Al Hasan felt Bangladesh will become stronger.
In the final T20I, Shakib picked up four wickets which took him past the 100-wickets milestone in T20I’s. He became only the second player in history after Lasith Malinga to achieve this feat.
