Veteran Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has shared his no-nonsense verdict on “Bazball” England’s latest style of playing in international cricket. The team, however, bowled out of the ICC World Cup 2023 in the league stage winning just three games. Their lowest point was losing to Afghanistan in the league stage. The defending champions could not come out with a breve defense to their defending champions tag.
England lost to New Zealand, India, Australia, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and South Africa, They only won against Bangladesh, Netherlands, and Pakistan. This has to be one of England’s worst World Cup campaigns ever.
They headed into the World Cup after drawing the Ashes series 2-2. Australia won the first two Tests. England, the hosts made a comeback in the third Test. The fourth Test in Manchester ended in a draw with England winning the fifth Test at The Oval to end the series 2-2.

Meanwhile, Lyon in his recent interaction on an Australian TV show, The Front Bar gave his honest opinion the Bazball, the famous term which has now found a place in the dictionary as well.
“Well I’m 2-0 against Bazball so I’m pretty happy about it. To me it’s a load of s*** if you ask me. It’s a brand of cricket that the English want to keep going, now it’s in the dictionary which is pretty remarkable,” said Lyon on the show.
There’s A Lot Of Smoke And Mirror With Bazball: Nathan Lyon
Lyon further gave David Warner’s example on Bazball and the attacking intent with which England plays their cricket. He further said there is a lot of “smoke and mirrors with BazBall”.
“I look at the Australian cricket team and the batters we’ve had, David Warner for example… I’ve seen him score hundreds in a session… and that’s off playing an attacking brand of cricket,” he said.
“I think there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors with BazBall, if I’m being honest with you, and I feel like if you’re going to play an aggressive brand of cricket anyway, it’s about being able to go up and down in gears and understanding the moments in the game,” Lyon added.
The veteran Australian spinner made himself available for Australia after Ashton Agar was eventually ruled out of the Australian squad with an injury. However, the management persisted with Glenn Maxwell as the second-choice spinner.
