BBL 2023-24: Injury Rules Jhye Richardson Out Of BBL; Pacer Doubtful For ODIs vs WI

Australian pacer Jhye Richardson has been ruled out of the remaining phase of the Big Bash League 2023/24 due to a fresh injury he sustained during Perth Scorchers‘ clash against Brisbane Heat on January 10 at the Gabba stadium in Brisbane.
Jhye Richardson has been dealing with injuries for quite some time now and he faces difficulty while fielding. He feels a lot of pain and thus it makes it difficult for him to throw the ball from the outfield. Richardson had dislocated his shoulder a couple of months ago and he underwent surgeries for it as well.
His situation with injuries has somehow plagued his career and has missed out on a lot of cricket already and the latest setback will be no different. Richardson due to his troubling shoulder is not able to perform at his best either and in the ongoing BBL edition, he has faced difficulties keeping up with expectations.
Jhye Richardson’s numbers this season describe the entire story, picking up just 6 wickets with an average of 40.33 and a disappointing economy rate of 9.18 in 8 matches for the Perth Scorchers. It will be fair to say that his bowling has gone from bad to worse in a matter of time and if he doesn’t recover in time, he might be doubtful to take part in IPL 2024 as well.
He was bought by the Delhi Capitals franchise for 5 Crores for his pace and yorkers. However, with the way things have turned out for him in the last match against Brisbane, Jhye Richardson could be out for a long time. He reportedly felt a strain on the left side of his body and his shoulder might have been the point of origin.
Richardson’s absence will also hurt the Scorchers who are just 1 point ahead of the Sydney Sixers in the 2nd spot with a game in hand. If they want to finish in the Top 2 to get 2 chances for a final spot, Perth will have to win their final league match against Brisbane Heat again in a reverse fixture.
Despite Poor BBL Performance, Jhye Richardson Was Called Up For ODIs Against West Indies
The Australian selectors backed Jhye Richardson to play in the ODIs against West Indies despite the bowler not performing at his best. He has not played a single International match since June 2022 with his last appearance for Australia coming in an away ODI against Sri Lanka.
After he was pulled out of Perth’s previous match, Jhye Richardson’s scan reports suggested that surgery is inevitable and that his injury was also looking severe. He has played 3 Tests, 15 ODIs, and 18 T20Is for Australia and has 11, 27, and 19 wickets respectively under his name.
The 3-match ODI series against West Indies in which he is a part of the Aussie squad will start on February 2 after the conclusion of the 2-match Test series.
