Former Bangladesh captains Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque have been added to the Bangladesh A squad for their four-day match against Pakistan Shaheens. The match serves up as a warm-up match ahead of the start of the Test series.
Pakistan are placed fifth in the WTC table while Bangladesh is eighth heading into this Test series. The two Test match series starts on August 21. Both teams have struggled in this format. Pakistan were whitewashed in their previous Test series against Australia. Bangladesh won the first Test against New Zealand but lost the second. They then lost to Sri Lanka in their next two Test matches.
Bangladesh will play two four-day games and three one-day matches against Pakistan Shaheens between August 10-27 in Islamabad. The first four-day match is scheduled from August 10-13 whereas the opening Test between the two senior men's sides kicks off on August 21 in Rawalpindi.
"Mushfiqur and Mominul requested us to include them in the first four-day game against Pakistan Shaheens. We feel the matches would be good preparation for some of the cricketers likely to represent us in the upcoming Test series against Pakistan," Abdur Razzak, a member of the national selection panel, told Cricbuzz on Tuesday.
Shahadat Hossain, Zakir Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan, Nayeem Hasan, and Hasan Mahmud are four players from Bangladesh's last Test series against Pakistan who have been picked for this four-day match. Shahadat Hossain is a part of the side just to play the two four-day games against Pakistan Shaheens.
Bangladesh Lined Up For A Test Series Against Pakistan
Meanwhile, the inclusion of Mossadek Hossain, who last played a Test match in 2022 has raised a few questions on the team selection. Several players from the domestic circuit have also been added to the four-day squads. Overall the sides are very inexperienced and this is where the former Bangladesh captains will need to bring in their experience.
"We have picked players like Mossadek as we have eight Test matches and we want to keep some experienced players ready so that in case we have any injury issues, they can come in as replacements," said Razzak.
"I think it's a great opportunity for us to test some of our players with the A team as those matches work to our advantage. We will also have New Zealand and South Africa and even West Indies... although the latter is yet to be confirmed. When these matches take place, we will understand more" he further added.
