BCB takes responsibility for BPL payment crisis
The member secretary of the BPL governing council Nazmul Abedeen Fahim spoke to the media after the incident and revealed BCB's point of view. He claimed that the board takes responsibility for all the crisis and pledges to solve everything soon.
"At the end of the day, obviously it is the Board's responsibility. We can't say someone else is responsible for it but we could have seen everything differently. The things that happened were still very unexpected. Having said that, we have to take responsibility," Nazmul said after the meeting with all the owners at BCB headquarters in Dhaka.
Further speaking on the fiasco, Nazmul claimed that this situation shouldn't have taken place and pledged that it won't happen again in the future.
"Obviously when we do something like this, we will consider these things. We know that there was a special situation and we weren't sure whether we would be able to do BPL and with how many teams," Nazmul explained.
"Still there is no excuse regarding what happened. There are many incidents that should not have happened and no excuses from our side. But in the future, this kind of incident will not take place, which we can ensure with certainty," he added.
BCB on cheque bounce issues
Nazmul Abedeen Fahim further spoke on creating a good relationship with the franchises and revealed that he didn't expect a franchise to be involved in such an issue. The BCB has informed the franchises of all the issues and hopes to resolve them soon.
"We didn't expect that a franchise would be interested in taking a team and then creating a situation like this. None of us expected that. From the beginning, there was an effort to establish a good relationship with the franchise," he noted.
"We observed some activities that don't align with the spirit of the BPL, and we reminded them of these issues. There are also payment concerns we talked about. Discussions were held regarding their plans, and we have reached some understanding," the BPL governing council secretary claimed.
Speaking on the issue of bounced cheques, Nazmul claimed that most of the franchises have not been involved in non-payment issues but their good work was overshadowed by the failures of some teams.
"It is very unfortunate. The issue of cheque bouncing never even crossed my mind. One or two franchises have failed to fulfill their financial commitments, but most of them have lived up to their promises," Nazmul observed.
"Unfortunately, the good work of successful franchises has been overshadowed by the failures of a few. Today, we expressed our gratitude to those who met their commitments," he added.
Controversy with Parvez Hossain Emon
Recently, it came to light that Bangladesh and Chittagong Kings opener Parvez Hossain Emon didn't receive any payment from his BPL franchise till 23rd January. The incident got heated up when the team owner Sameer Quader Chowdhury gave a controversial statement on the issue.
When asked about the issue, Chowdhury didn't deny it but further said that the money doesn't grow trees. Such kind of disgraceful statement wasn't expected from a team owner of a league which has a no. of international players.
Chowdhury didn't stop here and even said that Emon has to score runs with the bat. The remarks didn't go down well within the cricketing circles. Emon has scored just 103 runs in the season at an average of just 14.71 so far.
