On Sunday, September 29, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the key decisions that were made at the 93rd Annual General Meeting of the board.

The 93rd Annual General Meeting of BCCI was held in Bengaluru and all the top officials of the board were present at the meeting to have a discussion on several topics related to the Indian Cricket.

At the meeting, Arun Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya were elected unopposed to the IPL Governing Council. This will see Dhumal continue his tenure as the chairman of the IPL for at least one year.

Also, the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) has made the decision to nominate V. Chamundeswarnath as a player representative, and he was inducted into the IPL Governing Council.

Meanwhile, at the AGM the audited accounts for FY 2023-24 were passed and adopted as well as the Annual Budget for the same season was approved. Recently, the new NCA was inaugurated by the board with top-notch facilities, and it was named the Centre of Excellence. For the work undertaken at the NCA, the office bearers were applauded by the members of the body.

"The members of the General Body appreciated the efforts of the office bearers for the work undertaken with respect to the new National Cricket Academy campus, the Centre of Excellence," the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in an official media release.

Another major decision made at the meeting was the continuation of the legal status of the Board of Control for Cricket in India as a society, which was registered on December 1, 1928, in Chennai (then Madras).

"The members unanimously resolved to maintain BCCI’s legal status as a society. The members further resolved that the tournaments of the BCCI, including IPL, shall not be converted to a company," the board added.

Duleep Trophy Set To Return To Zonal Format, Decides BCCI

As per the report in Cricbuzz, the Duleep Trophy competition is all set to return to the zonal format. India A recently won the 2024 edition of the Duleep Trophy under the leadership of Mayank Agarwal.

The competition was played between four teams - India A, B, C, and D. Teams were picked by the Board of Control for Cricket in India selection committee and several international stars took part in the competition.

However, at the AGM, the consensus was that the Duleep Trophy did not serve its purpose, and a few associations were unhappy with the format for the 2024 season.

Discussions were made about some deserving players not being selected, and it was agreed that the Duleep Trophy should return to its original inter-zonal format from next year, with the teams being picked on a zonal basis.

Meanwhile, there will be teams from six zones from next year, unlike previous seasons where there were five zones. The six zones will be East, South, West, North, Central and North-East.
