The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is very much considering the idea of hosting a bio-bubble free series when South Africa comes visiting after the IPL 2022 season.

The Proteas will be playing a 5-match T20I series against India as preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup in October. For the same, it is likely that the players will not have to live in a bubble.

If all goes well and things remain in control like it is right now, there will be no bio-bubbles and hard quarantine during the home series against South Africa. Then we are going to Ireland and England and there won’t be any bio-bubble in those countries too.”

Some players have got periodic breaks but if you look at the bigger picture, living in a bio-bubble one series after another and now two months of IPL is simply exhausting for the players,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying to PTI.

Currently, the Indian players are taking part in the IPL where the bubble is being maintained. Taking their mental fatigue into consideration, the BCCI wants to relieve some of the stress by playing a bubble-free series.

BCCI to decide upon break period for senior players

Notably, the board might also rest some of the senior players in order to manage their workload post the IPL season. These include the likes of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja.

There are five T20 internationals between June 9 to 19 in five cities. Obviously, all the players won’t be playing all the games. Some might be given total rest and some might play a few games.

If these guys aren’t given systemic breaks, it will only harm them. But obviously, the duration of break will be decided by the selectors after talking to the head coach,” the source added.
