The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to appoint the support staff of the Indian women’s cricket team on a long-term contract basis. It is reported that the BCCI has decided to stop the practice of appointing support staff on an ad hoc basis as in the past.

The BCCI constitution states that the head coach will be selected by the Cricket Advisory Committee, and the selectors will pick the support staff. However, this was not followed in the past with regard to the support staff of the women’s team, as the BCCI appointed coaches from the National Cricket Academy on a temporary basis.

IPL 2023 | India National Cricket Team | Chennai Super Kings (CSK) | Delhi Capitals (DC) | Gujarat Titans (GT) | Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) | Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) | Mumbai Indians (MI) | Punjab Kings (PBKS) | Rajasthan Royals (RR) | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) | SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)

The women’s cricket team has been without a head coach since the sacking of Ramesh Powar in December last year and also played the T20 World Cup in February without a head of coaching staff. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team failed to win the tournament as they lost to Australia in the semi-final. The board will look at the appointment of a coach in preparation for the next ICC event.

The BCCI have high expectations for media rights for the 2023-2027 cycle, given the competition between Viacom, Star, and Sony. The board is expected to follow the strategy of selling broadcast and digital rights separately for international games at home like the IPL, where they made huge profits. Star has paid a whopping Rs 6,138.1 crore for the previous cycle that ended on March 31.
