BCCI Makes Few Changes To Clauses Ahead Of IPL Media Rights Bidding
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a few changes to the clauses ahead of IPL media rights bidding day, which is scheduled to start at 11 am IST in Mumbai on Sunday, June 12
The changes made to Package C were confirmed, with the initially scheduled 18 non-exclusive games for the Indian subcontinent now changed only to the Indian region. The base price will remain INR 15 crores.
As per a report in Cricbuzz, the participants in the bidding can be any broadcaster, an internet operator, or a mobile company from India, New Zealand, the US, Australia, South Africa, the UK, UAE, or any Caribbean countries.
The rights cycle, which spans five IPL seasons from 2023 to 2027, has four packages. Each of them has a separate per match base price. The bidders will have to list an amount that is at least the total base price amount.
IPL package prices and bidders in contention
For Package A the per match base price is INR 49 crore (USD 6.3 million approx.). For Package B it is INR 33 crore (USD 4.2 million approx.) per match. For Package C it is INR 11 crore (USD 1.4 million approx.) per match. For Package D it is INR 3 crore (USD 390,000 approx.) per match.
Currently, the major bidders are mostly broadcasting giants viz. Disney Star, Sony, Zee, and Viacom. Also in the contention are tech giants, Amazon and Reliance.
Earlier, BCCI had also stated that the winner of Package A will have the choice to offer a rights fee. Now, it has been modified to be a minimum incremental bid amount of INR 1 crore.
