In a heartwarming development for the UK-bound Indian men and women contingent, the family members of the cricketers will be allowed to accompany them during the upcoming tour of England.

The BCCI had put in a request to their English counterparts to allow the cricket to travel with their family members given the long period of time that they are going to spend in the bio-bubble.

“Yes, it’s good news that players will have their families during the tour of the UK. Ditto for the women’s team who can also have their families around. These are times when mental well-being of players is paramount,” said a BCCI source as quoted by PTI.

“The BCCI understands that we need our players and support staff to be in a good headspace,” the source added.

However, according to the same source, the BCCI office-bearers including President Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah will not be present for the WTC final due to the strict quarantine rules in the country.

According to the official, since Ganguly and Shah are not a part of the playing group, they would have had to undergo a ten-day hard quarantine following their entry into the country.

“As far as I know, the ECB didn’t grant permission to them (Ganguly and Shah). Normally, administrators go before the Test match but as per quarantine rules, since they are not playing members, they would have had to undergo hard quarantine of 10 days,” the source revealed.

“The team rules wouldn’t have been applicable as far as president and secretary is concerned,” the official further added.

The women’s team will travel to Bristol for the one-off Test after they complete 10-day isolation along with the men’s team in the Southampton hotel.

While they will be confined to their rooms for the first three days, they will be allowed to start their training from the 4th day.
