The BCCI has made a big move to help the Indian athletes participating in the Paris Olympics 2024. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah in a tweet has announced that the board will be giving a sum of 8.5 Crores to the Indian Olympic Association for the competition.

A total of 117 athletes from India across various sporting disciplines will be traveling to Paris to participate in the event. The tournament gets underway from July 26.

V Sindhu (two-time Olympic medalist), Neeraj Chopra (Olympic gold medalist), Mirabai Chanu (Olympic silver medalist), Lovlina Borgohain (Olympic bronze medalist) and Sharath Kamal (India's flag-bearer at the Olympic Opening Ceremony alongside Sindhu) are some of the prominent Indian athletes participating in the Olympics this year.

BCCI's Big Moves

"I am proud to announce that the @BCCI will be supporting our incredible athletes representing #India at the 2024 Paris Olympics. We are providing INR 8.5 Crores to the IOA for the campaign. To our entire contingent, we wish you the very best. Make India proud! Jai Hind" said Jay Shah on Sunday.

Previously after India's T20 World Cup win last month, Jay Shah announced the prize money offered to the Indian cricketers who participated in the tournament, which was INR 125 Crore.

Under him, BCCI has improved a lot on the administrative and technical side of things. Being the BCCI secretary he has actively participated in providing the necessary facilities to men's and women's cricketers.

He recently announced equal pay for men's and women's cricketers. Before the start of the Women's Asia Cup, the President of the Asian Cricket Council also extended his wishes to the teams participating in the tournament.

"I'm pleased to announce BCCI's first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing a pay equity policy for our contracted women cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be the same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Indian Cricket," Shah tweeted last year.

"The @BCCIWomen cricketers will be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts. Test (INR 15 lakhs), ODI (INR 6 lakhs), T20I (INR 3 lakhs). Pay equity was my commitment to our women cricketers and I thank the Apex Council for their support. Jai Hind," he added in another tweet.

While the India men's team have recently won their second T20 World Cup last month, the Indian women's team are currently participating in the ongoing Women's Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. They have made a great start to their title defense by beating Pakistan and UAE in their first two games by comfortable margins. India beat Pakistan by seven wickets and UAE by 78 runs.
