Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Deepak Hooda has been in trouble ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction, which is scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi on December 16. The BCCI has informed all ten franchises about the suspect-action category, which included Hooda during the previous IPL season.

Hooda had an underwhelming season with the Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 season. He was released by the franchise ahead of the auction. The all-rounder has played 125 IPL matches, scoring over 1,500 runs and taking 10 wickets. He is now part of the AL1 all-rounder category for the much-awaited auction.

Hooda featured in seven matches for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025, but he didn’t bowl at all. If the BCCI’s review confirms that his action is illegal, he could be barred from bowling in the 2026 season.

The board has already informed all ten franchises about the latest notice regarding Hooda just days before the December 16 mini-auction. Notably, Hooda bowled only one over in the Ranji Trophy and five overs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he managed one wicket.

Deepak Hooda Remains on BCCI’s Suspect-Action List ahead of IPL 2026 auction

Deepak Hooda’s bowling workload has been limited in recent months. He picked up 3 for 24 in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Jharkhand on December 8. With his name still on the BCCI’s suspect-action list, another report could lead to him being officially barred from bowling in the IPL.

Hooda will still enter the Abu Dhabi mini-auction as part of the AL1 all-rounder group with a base price of ₹75 lakh, a set that also features prominent names like Venkatesh Iyer, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Rachin Ravindra, all of whom are expected to attract serious interest.

Only one other player, Jammu & Kashmir’s Abid Mushtaq, is currently on the suspect-action list. He enters the auction at a base price of ₹30 lakh. Meanwhile, KL Shrijith and Rishabh Chauhan continue to remain banned from bowling in the IPL because of earlier violations.

Deepak Hooda’s IPL Career Overview

Deepak Hooda has spent a decade moving through several IPL franchises, beginning with Rajasthan Royals (RR) and later representing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and most recently Chennai Super Kings.

He has scored 1,496 runs at an average of 17.6 and a strike rate of 127.65. The off-spinner has taken 10 wickets at an average of 54.6 and an economy rate of 8.6.

He never fully unlocked the potential many saw early in his career, but Hooda remains a middle-order hitter who can offer part-time bowling support. He enters the IPL 2026 auction with a base price of ₹75 lakh, hoping a new team will back him to revive his all-round value.
