The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors will face Umran Malik’s selection dilemma when they sit on Sunday, May 22 to pick the squads for India’s upcoming series against South Africa, Ireland, and England.

Jammu and Kashmir express pacer Umran Malik, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), impressed everyone with his raw pace in the cash-rich league.

The right-arm pacer possesses the ability to bowl the deliveries consistently at over 150kmph. He bowled the fastest delivery of the Indian Premier League 2022 in the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium, on May 5 as the 22-year-old clocked 157kmph.

Umran Malik has won the award for fastest delivery of match 13 consecutive times in the IPL 2022 and he is expected to bag his 14th award when SRH play their last league stage game of the cash-rich league. Currently, the express pacer is the 5th highest wicket-taker in the IPL 2022 with 21 wickets under his belt in 13 games.

The Chetan Sharma-led selection committee will have to decide whether to include Umran Malik in the white-ball squad or red-ball squad or both.

It will be a big decision for the BCCI to make on Umran as many believe he is the next big thing in the Indian cricket and he should be unleashed as a trump card in the one-off Test against England and some suggest he should be groomed properly before playing international cricket.

The five-match T20I series between India and South Africa will begin on June 9 in Delhi and the remaining games will be held in Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, and Bengaluru respectively.

Meanwhile, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has selected a pretty strong squad for the series against India and now it’s on BCCI selectors to field a strong team.

Many cricket analysts like Aakash Chopra have suggested the Board of Control for Cricket in India to select a strong team instead of an experimental team comprising the IPL performers.

There is a school of thinking that some senior players, who will be travelling to England for the historic Test match, should be selected in India’s squad for the initial games against South Africa. Notably, the Indian contingent is scheduled to depart for England on June 16-17, as per Cricbuzz.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India selectors will have to make a big call on who will be leading India in the white-ball series in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who has sought a break, as per reports. One of the choices will be veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan, who had previously done a very good job as a skipper.

Also, the coaching staff will have to be divided for the red-ball and white-ball series and speculations are that the NCA head VVS Laxman will be looking after India’s white-ball series and Rahul Dravid will be travelling to England.

However, it is also being told that Rahul Dravid will be present during the home series against South Africa as he wants to have first-hand information on the performances given the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be held in Australia later this year.
