The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials will meet in an apex council meeting and decided on the fate of the C K Nayudu Trophy and Senior Women’s T20 Trophy which were postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The C K Nayudu Trophy for U-25 cricketers and Women’s Senior T20 event had to be postponed last month due to rising cases of Covid-19. The BCCI had said that they will try to resume the tournaments once the infection numbers come down. Even the start of the premier Indian domestic tournament Ranji Trophy was postponed.
Ranji Trophy 2022 was supposed to begin in the month of January but was pushed to February 17 with the tournament being held in bio-secure bubbles at different venues thus far. The first round was completed on Sunday.
Byju’s Sponsorship, LOC For 2023 World Cup And Other Issues To Be Discussed In BCCI Apex Council Meeting
As per PTI reports, the 14-point agenda for the BCCI apex council meeting includes the organization of the CK Nayudu U25 tournament and the senior women’s T20 trophy with the Covid-19 situation getting better across the country. Other issues are the formation of the Local Organising Committee for the 2023 ODI World Cup and the discussion on sponsorship of Byju’s.
The T20 World Cup last year could not take place in India due to the pandemic but the BCCI is looking forward to hosting another major ICC event next year. Edu-the company Byju’s contract as an Indian cricket team sponsor is set to end on March 31 and there will be a discussion on that too. Byju’s had replaced Oppo as the team sponsor in July 2019.
Apart from this, the allotment of matches for the upcoming five-match T20I series between India and South Africa in June will also be finalized. Central contracts of both men and women cricketers will be ratified and so will be the first-of-its-kind sexual harassment policy of the BCCI.
Also on agenda is the hosting fee hike for state associations, the appointment of a Sports Science head at the National Cricket Academy.
