Shreyas Iyer’s recovery journey has now reached its most important stage, with a crucial ultrasound scan scheduled for this month. This scan will decide when Shreyas Iyer can finally start a proper rehabilitation program at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

With the Indian think tank already working on a new ODI plan for a busy 2026 season, the result of Iyer’s scan is extremely important and could influence how the team prepares for the months ahead, especially keeping in mind the ICC World Cup 2027.

Shreyas Iyer enters crucial stage of recovery

India’s ODI vice-captain has been out of action since the third and final ODI in Sydney against Australia. During that match, the stylish batter suffered a strong blow to the left side of his rib cage, which caused internal bleeding and even a cut in his spleen.

The injury was serious and needed quick medical attention, ruling him out of action for a long time. The first scans in Sydney showed how sensitive the injury was, and the BCCI medical team kept him under strict care until his condition was stable enough to fly back home.

Medical check confirms positive healing for Shreyas Iyer

After returning to India, Iyer has been improving slowly. The Indian middle-order batter got an ultrasonography (USG) scan done near his home. The scan reports were checked by sports medicine expert Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, who confirmed that Iyer was healing steadily and moving in the right direction.

Given this progress, the right-handed batter was allowed to start simple daily activities and basic isometric exercises to maintain strength. However, he still cannot start proper cricket training yet. Iyer will only return to full practice after the medical team carefully checks his next scan and gives him a full medical clearance to move to the next stage of recovery.

Shreyas Iyer set for crucail Ultrasound scan in December to plan comeback

And that moment would finally come this month. As reported by India Today, Shreyas Iyer’s next ultrasound scan is planned for the second week of December. This scan will give doctors a clear picture of how well the spleen and surrounding tissues have healed internally.

Based on the results, Iyer is expected to meet a specialist, who will prepare a detailed rehab plan that will guide him through different stages—from light conditioning to controlled training.

Only after doctors are completely satisfied with his recovery and if everything looks good, Iyer will be allowed to begin his rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

The Mumbaikar will follow a structured training program at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru designed to slowly bring him back to full fitness and eventually return to the field.

Shreyas Iyer unlikely for New Zealand ODIs

The BCCI medical team is being very careful, as such injuries need complete internal healing before any intense sport activity. However, it looks unlikely that Iyer will be named in India’s squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, considering how his recovery is going.

The main focus right now is to make sure the vice-captain heals properly and steadily, without rushing back to cricket too soon. He already missed South Africa ODIs at home.
