Former Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun revealed that swing bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, could not get fit in time for India’s tour of England in 2018 and had to be omitted from the squad as a reason.

Bhuvneshwar was in great form that year and had also done excellently back when India toured England in 2014. He scored 247 runs and also took 19 wickets in five games and was instrumental in the win at Lord’s.

Bharat was asked about the pacer on Cricbuzz – “missing Bhuvneshwar Kumar over two away series in England? Was it just unfortunate or could something have been done differently?” He replied that it was out of their hands since he was injured.

Unfortunately, Bhuvi was not fit for the tour in 2018. The way he was bowling then, if he was fit, it could have made a big difference,” Bharat said.

“I can proudly say their consistency levels have improved tremendously” – Bharat Arun

Bharat Arun further added that the Indian bowling attack has developed excellently over the last few years. The already-existing pacers managed to improve their consistency while the newcomers like Mohammed Siraj gelled in quite easily.

All the bowlers have been tremendous. When I took over, Shami, Ishant, Bhuvi, and Umesh were already there. I can proudly say that their consistency levels have improved tremendously. Their understanding of their skills is much better now. The development of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah has proved that they belonged to the international level straightaway,” Bharat added.

On the back of India’s bowling, they have managed to win three away Test series in the last three years. They have another important assignment coming up when Virat Kohli and co. travel to South Africa for a full-fledged tour.
