Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt believes that the senior Indian speedster Bhuvneshwar Kumar seriously needs to bring his pace back.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has faced heavy criticism for his lacklustre performance in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against South Africa, where India lost the series by 0-3. In the two games Bhuvneshwar played in that series, he went wicketless and he was dropped from the team in the third and final ODI.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Butt said that the Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s lack of pace is a concern and he doesn’t have something extra-special like Mohammad Asif to succeed.

“Bhuvneshwar Kumar needs to seriously bring his pace back. With a speed of 125-130, if you don’t have something ‘extra-special’ like Mohammad Asif, or if you don’t get the conditions that assist spin, you don’t have a life as a fast bowler,” Butt said on his official YouTube channel.

If the keeper is standing up for you in South Africa, what are you doing there as a fast bowler – Salman Butt

During the second One Day International match between India and South Africa in Paarl, wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant stood up for Bhuvneshwar, and Butt slammed the pacer for this tactic.

If the keeper is standing up for you in South Africa, what are you doing there as a fast bowler? Definitely, they need to move in a direction where they have wicket-taking options, where batsmen have a fear in mind that the bowler is fast and that they can be hit. If you don’t have speed, the batsman doesn’t have a second thought. He will attack you with confidence,” said Butt.

Butt added that pacer Mohammed Siraj should play all the games for India instead of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

“That is why Siraj is there. He was in the previous series as well but he didn’t play a single game. He should be playing,” Butt added.
