Bizarre!! WBBL match abandoned after heavy roller crushes stray ball into the pitch
PC: X

One of the oldest and most prestigious leagues of Women's franchise T20 tournaments in the world, the WBBL marked the most bizarre moment in its history. During a game between the Adelaide Strikers and the Hobart Hurricanes Women, the match had to be called off midway after the roller pressed a stray ball into the track.

WBBL 2025 has already marked many such bizarre incidents and extraordinary situations in matches related to the Adelaide Strikers. However, the latest one will remain the most memorable thing to have occurred over the years.

Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes WBBL match called off after bizarre incident

The Adelaide Strikers did a commendable enough job with the bat, as Madeline Penna batted throughout 20 overs of the Strikers' innings and guided them off safely to 167. However, the innings break turned out to be one of cricket's most memorable moments.

During this period, a ball was misfielded and found its way underneath the heavy roller as it rolled the pitch. With the force from the roller, it could be seen, as stated by Hobart skipper Elyse Villani, that the ball smushed down the track and hence, play had to be called off.

"Tahila McGrath and I were asked to see the hole, and it was quite large, and the depth, as you can imagine, was the size of the outside of the ball. It was a rather large hole," said she after witnessing the bizarre incident at the Karen Rolton Oval.

Adelaide Strikers games witnessed the third call-off in the WBBL season

The big Australian all-rounder, Tahila McGrath, leads the Adelaide Strikers as their captain in the Women's Big Bash League. Under her leadership, the team has performed in a mediocre manner with 9 points in the bag.

After having played 9 games in the season already, Adelaide could manage only 3 wins, as three of their games have been washed out. But luckily for them, every washed-out game before the latest one was seemingly not going in the Strikers' favour.

The first of such incidents occurred when the Stars needed just 4 balls to constitute a game, but the match was called off; otherwise, the Strikers would have lost via DLS. Secondly, when Thunder needed just 3 runs off 13 balls, the game was again called off due to rain, which was arguably not so heavy as to discontinue the game.

Hobart Hurricanes top the WBBL points table

The Adelaide Strikers opener Penna did a considerably good job with the bat, and with small contributions from Tammy Beaumont and Patterson in the innings, they could post a target of 168 in front of the Hurricanes, who are in red-hot form.

Nat Sciver-Brunt remained the pick of the Hurricanes bowlers while Molly Strano, Nicola Carey and Linsey Smith picked up a wicket each. Currently, the Hurricanes lead the points table with 15 points in their 10 games with 7 wins and 2 losses.
