Virat Kohli once again proved why he is still one of the biggest match-winners in the IPL. Despite dealing with a sore knee and illness, Virat Kohli led the chase beautifully for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 15.
Virat Kohli made the chase look easy with his brilliant knock of 49 runs from 34 balls at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He picked the right moments to attack, which helped RCB finish the match in 15.1 overs with five wickets in hand against LSG.

Apart from Virat Kohli, Captain Rajat Patidar (27 runs off 13 balls) and Jitesh Sharma (23 runs off 9 balls) also played quickfire cameos to take RCB home. With this win, RCB have now jumped to the top of the IPL 2026 points table with 8 points. They have won four out of their five matches.

RCB bowlers were also outstanding throughout the innings. Rasikh Salam Dar was the star performer with the ball, picking up 4 wickets and breaking the backbone of LSG’s batting.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar supported him well with 3 wickets, while Krunal Pandya got two wickets, and Josh Hazlewood maintained pressure on LSG with a brilliant spell of 1/20 in his four overs.
Kohli hails RCB's smart approach and team work
After the match, RCB shared a video on its social media handle featuring the celebration of the teams and dressing room moments. In that clip, Kohli said that he was happy with the team’s performance and praised the way RCB handled the modest chase against the LSG.
The former captain felt the defending champions played smart cricket, and even after losing Phil Salt early, Rajat, Jitesh, and others stayed positive and kept attacking, which didn’t allow the Lucknow bowler to come back into the match.
Virat Kohli said in the video, “Guys, another good win for us. I think we were quite professional with the back, a conscious effort to try and take the game away from the opposition early on. In small periods of pressure, we chose the right shots, put the pressure right back on the opposition, and we just stayed ahead of the game at all times.”
Kohli teases Romario Shepherd and Krunal Pandya; hopes RCB will continue the momentum
However, the RCB icon was not happy with the small batting collapse against LSG, though he teased Romario Shepherd (14* off 8 balls) for finally getting some time in the middle. He also joked that Krunal Pandya missed batting against LSG but hopes to see him in the next game.
The former Indian captain further added, “From a personal perspective and also from a batting group perspective, I think I would have liked to see us finish with 2 or 3 down. I don't like seeing collapses, but bloody well done, and good to see Sheppy finally get some time with the back and finish the game off. KP is the only one left now, so everyone gets some game time, and then we'll probably see a celebration next time.”

Overall, Kohli was satisfied with the performance and said the RCB is moving in the right direction with good teamwork and confidence, and now they just have to maintain this going forward in the tournament. He said, “Well done, very professional; we'll keep moving ahead.”
