India could soon have a new cricket stadium that takes the title of the country's biggest venue away from Ahmedabad. Actually, the Telangana government is planning a massive cricket stadium at Bharat Future City, Hyderabad, and the BCCI will help them to make this a reality.

Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium is the world’s largest cricket and sports stadium by seating capacity, with space for 132,000 spectators. Now, Telangana wants to surpass Gujarat, searching for land to build India’s biggest cricket stadium. Amid this, India, Pakistan align over Asian Games 2026, Bangladesh differ; Full ACC meeting details.

Hyderabad set to build India’s biggest cricket stadium

As reported by the Deccan Chronicle and the New Indian Express, sources in the Chief Minister's Office revealed that a huge new cricket stadium is planned in Bharat Future City on 100 acres of land. The stadium is expected to have more seats than the Narendra Modi Stadium has.

The project is being planned under the vision of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The stadium will take inspiration from famous grounds like Lord’s in England and iconic stadiums in Australia. CM Reddy is expected to lay the foundation stone for the ambitious project in December 2026.

However, the officials are still finalizing the location and cost, but the construction is expected to be more expensive than the Narendra Modi Stadium. The Telangana government wants it to become an international-standard sports and entertainment destination that can host big cricketing events.

BCCI and Telangana Government set to join hands for India’s biggest stadium in Hyderabad

It is being said that the BCCI is expected to take care of the construction and maintenance expenses, while the state government would provide the land. A joint management model involving the BCCI and Telangana government is also being considered for the dream project in Bharat Future City.

Hyderabad already has the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal, and it has already hosted several big matches, but the current government believes its capacity is not enough for major events like World Cup games.

The new stadium is being planned to solve that problem and give Hyderabad a venue capable of handling much bigger international events. The location could also become one of the biggest advantages of the project. Amid this, Tilak Varma silences critics with an amazing Duleep Trophy hundred.

The proposed site at Bharat Future City will have access to the Outer Ring Road, the proposed Regional Ring Road, a planned Metro extension to Future City and the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad. This connectivity could make things easier for everyone.

Hyderabad’s proposed mega stadium set to become multi-purpose sports hub

Well, the government has bigger plans for the facility. The proposed complex could also be used for football games, large concerts, and other major events apart from hosting the cricket matches. They are even looking at facilities that could allow the venue to host large conventions and events.

This could help Hyderabad meet the growing demand for a large venue similar in scale to the Hyderabad International Convention Centre. In simple words, the government wants to build a multi-purpose venue that remains useful even when there is no cricket happening.

The mega stadium is expected to be part of the wider Sports City, tourism, and Net-Zero City plans for Bharat Future City. The Telangana government is also looking at the project from the point of view of young athletes.

The aim is to build world-class sports facilities and provide better opportunities for youngsters. The Young India Physical Education and Sports University is already working with international universities and organizations as part of this larger sporting vision.
