Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan are reportedly set to return home after the conclusion of the US leg of India's matches in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Team India are currently in the USA for their group games of the T20 World Cup. All of their group games were scheduled to take place in the USA. They have already played their first three games at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York while their fourth and final game is scheduled to be played at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Florida.

India will be facing Canada on Saturday (June 15) in Florida before flying to the Caribbeans for the Super 8s. According to a report in Cricbuzz, both Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan will return home after the final group game. Both the players are not a part of the main squad but are in reserves.

The report further stated that both players were in Florida on Thursday, having flown with the team from New York to Fort Lauderdale by a chartered flight on Wednesday. The news outlet also stated that both Gill and Avesh were with the team only as backups in case of any unexpected injuries.

They accompanied the team to the USA with the main squad only because it would not be immediately possible for BCCI to send in reinforcement from India to the US or the Caribbean in case of an unforeseen injury to a player. The other two reserve players - Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed - are likely to stay on with the squad and travel to Bridgetown, Barbados for the first Super 8 game.

India book spot in Super 8s:

Meanwhile, Team India have already booked their spot in the Super 8s by winning their first three games of the tournament. They started their campaign with an eight-wicket win over Ireland before beating arch-rivals Pakistan by six runs. In their third game, India beat the USA by seven wickets to become the first team from Group A to qualify for the Super 8s.
