Brilliant Test Match, Don't Think It Deserves A Draw In The End - Heather Knight
England captain Heather Knight was ecstatic with the way her teammates played in the only Test of the Women’s Ashes series against Australia. The match ended in a thrilling draw, very similar to the Sydney Test of the Men’s Ashes.
Chasing 257 to win in the fourth innings with 48 overs to play, England went on the attacking note and was well poised to win. However, a flurry of wickets saw the Aussies come back before the last pair managed to eke out a draw.
“Brilliant Test match and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don’t think it deserves a draw in the end, does it? But delighted the way the girls fought and it is really pleasing.”
“Not too bad, my left glute is a bit sore and trying to get a stride in, I feel alright and bowling is the hardest thing in Test match cricket and some of our bowlers gave it a real shift and 3 days before the ODI stuff starts and have to recovery pretty well,” Knight said after the game.
“Pleased with the fact we got close” – Heather Knight
Knight herself played a tremendous knock in the first innings, taking England closer to Australia’s first innings total. That helped reduce the first-innings deficit before a stunning chase saw them having the advantage.
“I think really pleased with the fact that we got close and I think the psychology changes a little bit, we were giving it a go and suddenly we were favourites. Probably an opportunity missed, but I think we will fret on it and we will look back and think what a game to be involved in and the fact that we went toe-to-toe with the Aussies and obviously with the series still alive, pretty pleased,” Knight added.
The series now moves on to the 3-match ODI series that begins on February 3.
