Stafanie Taylor, an experienced all-rounder, and Britney Cooper, a middle-order batsman, were re-added to the West Indies team on Friday in preparation for the January 2023 T20I tri-series against South Africa and India.

Along with the pair, fast bowlers Shamilia Connell and Shakera Selman return after overcoming their individual injuries. In order to prepare for the Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in South Africa from February 10–26, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has picked a 16-person squad for the tri-series.

In the tri-series, which begins on January 21, the West Indies will play at least four games—two against the hosts, South Africa, and India. The tri-series championship game will then be played at Buffalo Park on February 2 between the top two teams.

Prior to the tri-series on January 16, West Indies will also compete in a warm-up game versus South Africa in Beacon Bay. By February 2, the teams for the Women’s T20 World Cup must be submitted.

The 2016 champion West Indies will be placed in Group 2 of the eighth iteration of the prestigious competition alongside England, India, Pakistan, and Ireland. The tournament will be held at Newlands in Cape Town, Boland Park in Paarl, and St. George’s Park in Gqeberha, with the semifinals and championship game taking place in Cape Town.

Stafanie Taylor had been out since September:

Stefanie Taylor has been out since the second ODI against New Zealand in September. Stafanie Taylor was also unable to play in the White Ferns’ five-match T20I series, and she also missed the white-ball matches against England. On the other side, Britney’s final game for the West Indies came in September 2021 during a home series against South Africa.

The squad sees the return of Stafanie Taylor who missed the recent series against England due to injury and Britney Cooper, the middle order batter who last played against South Africa Women in September 2021” said lead selector Ann-Browne John.

The West Indies, who have been placed in Group 2 with England, India, Pakistan, and Ireland for the T20 World Cup, will begin their quest for a second title against England on February 11 at Paarl.
