Cameron Green to be dropped from KKR playing XI? Harbhajan Singh approves the decision

Ex-KKR spinner advices Cameron Green's snub from the Playing XI

Former KKR spinner Harbhajan Singh opined that Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is not a suitable part of the Kolkata Knight Riders playing XI, as he is currently unable to bowl and is playing as a specialist batter.

Kolkata Knight Riders didn't have the idea that they would have to consider benching their most highly bid cricketers. Last season, when Venkatesh Iyer was bought for an insane price, he failed to perform in the season. On the other hand, the same has been repeated for the Australian all-rounder this season.

Cameron Green has just managed to score 20 runs in the last two IPL games, featuring as a specialist batter. However, this is the result of an unfortunate dismissal in the second game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“I feel that Cameron Green doesn’t fit in this team" - Harbhajan Singh

Legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh opined that Cameron Green no longer fits in the Kolkata Knight Riders lineup until he is fit enough and resumes delivering with the ball. These remarks came after the defeat against SRH at the Eden Gardens.

“I feel that Cameron Green doesn’t fit in this team, and the simple reason is that he isn’t bowling. The team should bring in Tim Seifert and have him open the innings, because if Cameron Green isn’t going to bowl, there are better options available purely as a batter. That option is Seifert. Then there’s Rovman Powell, who could also be played," said Harbhajan while speaking on his YouTube channel.

He rather felt that if Green had to play as a specialist batter, then there were better options in the KKR squad who could function purely as a batter. They could further contribute to the batting order, a realization that came after the 65-run defeat.

Harbhajan Singh suggests ideal replacements for KKR all-rounder

Speaking further in the same video, Harbhajan Singh also opined that KKR must be feeling the pressure after the two consecutive losses. Suggesting some changes in the batting department, he suggested the likes of Tim Seifert or Rovman Powell be picked to bolster their batting at the top or the bottom of the order.

“Now suddenly, KKR’s team must be feeling the pressure because they have lost both of their first two matches, one at home and one away. If they want to make a comeback from here, they need to fix a few things. First, they have been hit hard in both matches, first by Mumbai and now at home by SRH.

“So what needs to be done? Their bowling needs some improvement. Also, as I’m saying, instead of Green, maybe the team should play Tim Seifert or Rovman Powell, who can give a bit more power and score big runs at the top of the order. If Powell is played lower down the order, he still bats decently,” he added.

Will KKR pick Rachin Ravindra to strengthen their batting?

Kolkata has mostly sided with their seasoned campaigner, Sunil Narine. However, much like Andre Russell bid adieu to the IPL ahead of the 2026 season, it's finally time for the franchise veteran Sunil Narine to draw the curtains on his IPL career.

However, Narine has not been handy with the bat since the last season, and he has been wicketless in the last game at the Eden Gardens. KKR will next be in action at the same venue as the Eden Gardens against the Punjab Kings.

KKR has New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, who can strengthen the top order of the Knight Riders and also bring in another handy spin bowling option. Ravindra was one of the highest wicket-takers in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
