Candice Warner, wife of Australian star David Warner, has hit back at his critics after his stunning century in the ongoing first Test between Australia and Pakistan in Perth.
Just ahead of his final Test series for Australia, David Warner found himself at the center of a significant controversy, as his spot in the Australian Test team became a matter of public debate. It all began with a newspaper column written by his former teammate Mitchell Johnson.
The former Australia pacer had slammed the opening batsman for designating his retirement date when so many legendary cricketers could not get it. Launching a scathing attack towards David Warner, Johnson said that his ex-teammate did not deserve the hero’s farewell because of his involvement in the infamous 2018 ball-tampering scandal. He also questioned his place in the Test side after his poor performances in recent times.
Candice Warner hits back at critics:
David Warner, on Thursday (December 14), shut down his critics in style by scoring a sensational century against Pakistan in Perth. He came out all guns blazing after Australia won the toss and raced away to a 41-ball fifty. By the time the first session came to an end, Australia had raced away to 117 for no loss in just 25 overs with David Warner unbeaten on 72 off 67 balls.
After the break, he reached his century in 125 deliveries and went on to reach the 150-run mark. He was eventually dismissed for 164 runs. Debutant Aamer Jamal gave Pakistan the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing the star opener. His 164-run knock came off 211 balls and was studded with 16 fours and 4 sixes.
