Former Indian cricketer RP Singh shared his verdict on the dismissal of Joe Root in the ongoing Rajkot Test against England. He said that had someone played that shot at domestic or club level, his career might have gotten over.

England batter Joe Root has come under immense scanner after his dismissal in the ongoing third Test against India. The right-hander got out in a bizarre way and it is fair to say that the premier batter gifted his wicket away and put his team under pressure.

Joe Root attempted a reverse scoop off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling but he didn’t connect and was caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal at second slip. The shot came out of the blue because he was batting decently well till that point. If he had stayed there for a long, things would’ve been different for England.

Joe Root continued his torrid run in Test cricket in India in the ongoing series. The batter perished for 18 runs off 31 balls and his wicket triggered the collapse for the team. With the way he got out, the batter faced criticism for his poor form.

RP Singh criticised Joe Root for the kind of shot he played. He said that he never thought a player of Root’s calibre would play such kind of shot. Sharing his opinion on the batter’s dismissal on Colors Cineplex, he explained:
“The shot Joe Root played if someone had played such a shot at domestic or club level, his career might have gotten over. He would have been asked to first correct things and come as you can’t play like that.

“I am not able to think how the support staff would see that shot. I never thought such a compact player would play this shot and that too against Jasprit Bumrah. He might have thought two days ago that he would try something unique as Bumrah was anyway dismissing him.”

Jasprit Bumrah has been on top of Joe Root in this series – RP Singh

RP Singh further pointed out that there was a battle going on between Jasprit Bumrah and Joe Root. He noted that the pacer has been on the top of the batter, who needs to be careful while facing. He added:

“There was a match being played in between this match. Jasprit Bumrah has been on top of him (Root) in this series and he has been dismissed in different fashions. It’s not that he has been dismissed similarly. I would say it’s more in Joe Root’s mind that he needs to be careful against Jasprit Bumrah.

“At times, when you come with such thoughts, you start missing the scoring balls, and the pressure builds even more. Jasprit Bumrah has made a place in his mind that he would dismiss him. It happens, a lot of players have such records against a particular player.”

This was the 9th time Jasprit Bumrah removed Joe Root in Test cricket. In the ongoing series, the batter has managed 70 runs at an average of 14.00 in five innings.
