Cheteshwar Pujara is set to join the Sussex squad for the County season. He will be available for the first seven county games and will be playing for Sussex for a third straight season. The Indian test legend is back at Hove for this season. He has a tremendous record for Sussex in County cricket. In his 18 County Championship appearances for Sussex, Pujara has amassed 1863 runs at an astonishing average of 64.24 which includes eight centuries and three half-centuries.

Cheteshwar Pujara’s highest individual score for Sussex in the 2022-23 season when he scored 231 against Derbyshire sharing a stand of 351 with Tom Haines, who also got a double century. In the 2023 season, his highest score was against Gloucestershire where he scored 151 with the help of 20 fours and two sixes.

Speaking on his delight at returning to Sussex, Pujara said, “I have enjoyed my time at Hove the last couple of seasons and couldn’t be more delighted to be back again with the Sussex family. “I am looking forward to joining the team and contributing to its success.”

On bringing Cheteshwar Pujara back again, Sussex Head Coach, Paul Farbrace, said, “I am delighted that Cheteshwar is returning to Hove again for the first two months of the season. “He is not just a high-quality player but is also a high-quality person. His experience and calmness in matches is a fantastic asset for our team.”

Cheteshwar Pujara Last Played For India In The WTC Final

Cheteshwar Pujara’s last outing for India was back in June when India faced Australia in the World Test Championship Finals. Pujara did not have a decent outing in the finals and was eventually dropped after India lost the finals. He has been India’s premier No.3 batter for the last decade in red-ball cricket but now finds himself out of the team.

Shubman Gill has taken Cheteshwar Pujara’s place as the new No.3 for India in tests whereas Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma open the batting for India in red-ball cricket. The 35-year-old scored 14 in the first innings of the WTC Finals and was out after scoring 27 in the second innings. He is currently not in the scheme of things for the Indian team and therefore it is best for him to prove his worth in county cricket.
