As India and New Zealand gear up to play in the first-ever final of the ICC World Test Championship which will be played at the Rose Bowl in Southampton from June 18, Australia pacer Pat Cummins offered his two cents into the debate which team will win the final and be crowned the World Test champions.

While the India team is currently quarantining in Mumbai for their tour of the UK, the New Zealand team has begun their outdoor practice for their upcoming two Test matches against England with the first match to be played in Lord’s in London. This will give them more time to acclimatize to England conditions than India who will leave for England in early June.

There Has Been A Lot Of Rain In England And From The Conditions Point Of View, It Is Closer To New Zealand: Pat Cummins

In a live Q & A session on his YouTube channel, Pat Cummins opened up about the WTC final and the chances of both teams to lay hands on the inaugural title. The showpiece finale will be played from June 18-22 at Southampton, where conditions might suit swing bowlers more.

Given that the overcast and chilly conditions are more suited to New Zealand players, Cummins feels that Kane Williamson and his men will be better adapted and prepared than Virat Kohli and his men. But at the same time, the 28-year-old also believes anything can happen as both teams are equally skilled.

“It will be a good match. There has been a lot of rain in England and from the conditions point of view, it is closer to New Zealand’s. It is going to be interesting as both teams haven’t played a Test match since a couple of months. It is a one-off so anything can happen. But the conditions would suit New Zealand more than India,” Pat Cummins opined.

India and New Zealand have arguably been the two best teams in the 2019-21 WTC cycle and have deservedly made it to the final. India didn’t have a very good tour of England in 2018, losing the five-Test series 4-1 and had previously lost to New Zealand in their own backyard 2-0 in 2020.

However, India is coming off a confident-boosting Test series win in Australia and then beating England in India. New Zealand didn’t play a single Test outside their own home in the ICC WTC cycle.
