Cricket, Lawn Tennis, Mixed Martial Arts, Squash, and Softball have expressed their desires to make their appearances in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. Brisbane will host the 2032 Olympic Games as announced by the International Olympic Committee. The panel entered into exclusive discussions with Australia’s bidding organisers to stage the Olympics down under for the third time.
The news developed interest amongst several sports as they began to compete for a spot at one of the most significant sporting events in the world. A Cricket Australia spokesman stated that the association felt delighted to hear the developments around the Brisbane bid, hoping that cricket would be amongst the sport, the Olympic committee decides to include in the programme.
The spokesman claimed that they would do everything in their power to include cricket at the Olympics. With cricket being a national sport in Australia, they would be thrilled to witness it, whatever format it might be. The representative believes that winning an Olympic gold medal would indeed be the dream for many junior cricketers.
“We will absolutely work closely with the Queensland Olympic Council to ensure cricket is front of mind. Cricket is a truly national sport here in Australia and it would just be fantastic to see our sport represented at the Olympics, whatever the format may be. That dream of representing your country and even winning an Olympic gold medal could become a reality for many of our junior cricketers,” a spokesman of Cricket Australia stated as quoted by The Age.
ICC not yet ready to making a formal bid to join the 2032 Brisbane Olympics:
An ICC’s source revealed that the apex body of the sport was not yet ready to make a formal bid to join the 2028 Olympic games in Los Angeles or the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. Thus, they would depend on the event organizers, making the sport a host city pick. Cricket featured only in the 1900 Olympic games in Paris, where only the United Kingdom and France participated in a two-day match.
