Cricket To Return In Olympics As LA28 Set To Make Recommendations To IOC In August – Reports

In what has been the latest development as per the reports in RevSportz, it is learned that LA28 will be recommending the inclusion of cricket to the International Olympic Committee by the end of August 2023. The Olympics in 2028 is set to be hosted by Los Angeles.

The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee is expected to approve Los Angeles’ recommendation of the inclusion of cricket in the Olympics before their session in Mumbai. The reports also suggested that a formal announcement about this will be made during or immediately after India vs Pakistan match in the ICC World Cup 2023 on October 14.

Multiple meetings related to the inclusion of cricket in the Olympics have been done and it is learned that after several rounds of discussion, the International Olympic Committee has given a positive response and soon will make an official statement on the same. 

A source close to RevSportz confirmed the development and explained: “Yes, LA will make its recommendations to the IOC fag end of this month and will also make an announcement to that effect. Unless things go wrong from here, which is unlikely, this is the timeline that should happen from here on. With the World Cup in progress, there is no better time for the formal announcement.” 

The inclusion of Cricket in the Olympics is expected to open a huge market for the International Olympic Committee. The governing body is also expected to earn a huge amount of revenue when the formal announcement is made. 

ICC Suggests T20 Format for Cricket In Olympics 

With all the talks about the inclusion of the cricket in Olympics, International Cricket Council (ICC) recently suggested six-team T20 competitions for both men and women. The top six teams in the ICC rankings will make it into the tournament 

Recently a report in ESPNcricinfo suggested that ICC is presently exploring ideas with the LA28 organizers before deciding on a tournament format. The reports also said that IOC had informed the ICC that the format should be one in which a world championship is held (which would exclude T10, for example), and has a brief duration (which excludes ODIs).
