CSK Full Squad, Team List, Players List After IPL 2024 Auction

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) headed into the IPL 2024 auction with a remaining purse of 31.4 crores with six slots to fill three of them were overseas players. The franchise will be led by MS Dhoni who is back after having a successful knee surgery after the IPL 2023 auction. 

A total of 333 players registered for the IPL 2023 auction. This included 214 Indian players, 119 overseas players, and 2 associate players. Between them they had 116 capped and 215 uncapped players. 

CSK did very well to retain the core of the side with MS Dhoni being at the helm of it. Ravindra Jadeja, Maheesh Theekshana, Shivam, Dube, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Devon Conway form the core of the current squad. Within them, they have shared responsibilities and won the team two titles in the last three IPL seasons. Overall CSK have won five IPL titles with the most recent ones coming in 2021 and 2023. 

After winning the IPL 2023 title, MS Dhoni spoke about coming back for one final season for the Chennai fans who have loved and supported him and the franchise through thick and thin. He said that playing in front of the home fans in Chepauk will be his way of thanking the fans one final time. 

CSK are the defending champions of the IPL having won the title in 2023. Loyalty is the basic principle on which the team has built its success over the years. MS Dhoni and the management places immense trust on the players and back them to deliver in the crunch times. 

Ben Stokes who was roped in ahead of the IPL 2023 auction made himself unavailable this season to focus on his Test career. This left a big hole for the management. Apart from a quality all-rounder, the management needed an experienced Indian pacer as backup of Deepak Chahar who has been injury-prone in the last couple of seasons. They needed just three players to make up their 8 overseas players list which they have done.

Ambati Rayudu, Ben Stokes, Dwaine Pretorius, Kyle Jamieson, and Sisanda Magala were among the names to be released ahead of the auction which meant that they had specific areas to target. Apart from an experienced Indian pacer they also needed an overseas experienced pacer. Over the years they had the likes of Tim Southee, Albie Morkel, Doug Bollinger, and Josh Hazlewood who did the job for them.
