At just 14 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has taken the cricket world by storm with his fearless batting for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025. Vaibhav Suryavanshi made the perfect start to his IPL career, smashing a six off his very first ball against Lucknow Super Giants’ Shardul Thakur.

A few matches later, the left-handed batter stunned everyone by scoring the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history. He had scored a blistering hundred in just 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans. Suryavanshi got his big break when Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson was sidelined with a side strain, and the teenage sensation grabbed his opportunity with both hands.

He went on to form one of the most destructive opening pairs of the season alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. His attacking style wasn’t limited to the matches, but even in practice, he was fearless and famously smacked Jofra Archer all over the nets in a Rajasthan Royals training session.

In his debut season, the young batting sensation played seven matches in IPL 2025, scoring 252 runs at an average of 36 and an incredible strike rate of over 206. He was the youngest player ever sold at an IPL auction after the RR snapped him up for a whopping INR 1.1 crore at the mega auction.

Even experienced pros like Ravichandran Ashwin were amazed by his maturity and range of shots. From smashing bowlers with raw power to timing the ball with elegance, Suryavanshi proved that age is just a number when it comes to talent.

Ravichandran Ashwin recalls how Jos Buttler teased Jofra Archer after being hit by Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Ravichandran Ashwin recalled on his YouTube channel, "I'll tell you one small story. After that RR versus CSK game in Delhi. It is not so much about his hitting. So, I bowled one ball from around the stumps. He played one to cover. And the next ball, I bowled it slow.

You have kept wickets for me for a long time. I wanted to see where he would go. He just waited on that ball. Just creamed through mid-on for a single. I was like, ‘What the hell, man. Where has this guy come from?’ And he is 14 years old. And I made my debut 18 years ago in the IPL. He was still in the imagination of his parents.”

The former Indian off-spinner also joked about how Jos Buttler made fun of Jofra Archer after being smacked by the youngster Suryavanshi. Ashwin added, “So, it was quite crazy. I saw Jos Buttler talk to Jofra about it. He asked him, ‘How did it feel to get smashed by a 14-year-old in the nets?’”

Sanju Samson in awe of Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s power-hitting

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson was all praise for Vaibhav Suryavanshi, recalling how the youngster’s first-ball six seemed like luck at first, but he kept producing stunning shots that left the Rajasthan Royals captain genuinely amazed.

Samson said during the discussion, “The young boy who is smashing it all around the park for the Rajasthan Royals. Vaibhav Suryavanshi. When he hit the first ball for a six, I was like, 'That's cool. He lucked out. But then he just went on and on. The quality of shots he was hitting really shocked me.”
