Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar gave his verdict on if MS Dhoni will become the head coach of the national team or not. He said that the keeper-batter could take over the role but not now as he needs a cooling-off period.
MS Dhoni has been the best leader the Indian cricket team has produced. Under his captaincy, the team has won every ICC Trophy affiliated with the white ball. Not only this but he has proved his worth even in Test cricket.

MS Dhoni is currently leading his side in the IPL 2023 and has done a reasonably good job so far. During the rain interval in the game between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), batting great Sunil was asked if the keeper batter should become the coach of the Indian national team one day.

Replying to this, he said that MS Dhoni might take up the role but after a few years as whosoever adopts that role needs a cooling period. Speaking on Star Sports, he elaborated:
“MS Dhoni could take over the coaching role (in the Indian team) a little bit later. I think that is how it should be. I do believe that you need a little bit of cooling off period before you take any assignment with the team (after retiring as a player).
Be it the selection committee, the manager, or the coach, I think you need a 2 or 3-year cooling of period because you are making decisions about the player that you have been playing with. You can give anyone a three-year cooling-off period and then look at it.”
MS Dhoni last played for India in the 2019 World Cup before calling time on his career in 2020.
CSK vs MI : Rain plays spoilsport in the game between LSG and CSK
The game between LSG and CSK was called off due to rain. MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to field first. They bowled exceptionally well and kept wickets in clusters uproot. They reduced them to 44/5 before Ayush Badoni smashed a valiant half-century to take his team over 125 runs. Rain then however arrived and the game was called off.
