Ravindra Jadeja, on Sunday (May 12), was given out for obstructing the field during the game between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The incident took place in the 16th over when Ravindra Jadeja was facing Avesh Khan. The southpaw came out to bat in the 15th over after Shivam Dube's dismissal saw CSK getting reduced to 107 for 4 while chasing 142. Ravindra Jadeja, however, did not last long and had to depart for only 5 runs in seven balls for obstructing the field.

The incident happened on the fifth ball of the over. Ravindra Jadeja hit the delivery from Avesh towards third man and took off for the run. The CSK all-rounder wanted the second run as well and had started running. However, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was not interested in taking the second run at all.

With Gaikwad not responding, Ravindra Jadeja turned back and started running towards the non-striker's end. In the meantime, wicketkeeper Sanju Samson received the throw from the fielder and took a shot at the non-striker's end.

However, his throw ended up hitting Jadeja on his back. After watching the replays, the third umpire concluded that the CSK star was watching the ball and was well aware of where it was going. The umpire was convinced that Jadeja deliberately stopped the ball from going towards the stumps.

As a result, the umpire gave his decision in Samson's favor. Jadeja and Gaikwad were then seen having a discussion with the umpires but it did not make much difference and the former had to head back to the pavilion.

Ravindra Jadeja is not the first:

Ravindra Jadeja is not the first player to be given out obstructing the field in the IPL. Before him, two players had lost their wickets for a similar mistake. The first player to be given out obstructing the field is Yusuf Pathan.

He was given out obstructing the field while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders against now-defunct Pune Warriors in India in 2013. Later in 2019, Amit Mishra was also given out obstructing the field when he was playing for Delhi Capitals against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
