Jaffna Kings and Dambulla Sixers go head to head in LPL 2024 match 3 in Pallekele on June 3. The first five games will be played in Pallekele. This is the second game for both the franchises. The match starts at 3 pm IST.
The LPL 2024 is the fifth season of the tournament. B-Love Kandy is the defending champion of the tournament. There are five teams in this tournament namely, B-Love Kandy, Dambulla Sixers, Jaffna Kings, Galle Marvels, and Colombo Strikers.
The tournament is played in the round-robin format with every team playing the the other team twice in the tournament. The top four teams will make it to the playoffs and eventually, the top two teams will play the final.
Sri Lankan cricket is in disarray at the moment with no ICC titles since the 2014 T20 World Cup. They won the 2022 Asia Cup in between. They faced a league-stage exit from this T20 World Cup and did not fare very well in the ODI World Cup last year either.
Cricket is the country is jeopardised by match-fixing charges as well. The Dambulla franchise owner was arrested due to match-fixing charges. The ownership then changed and the new owners under the DeSilva Holdings got ownership of the Dambulla franchise and renamed it Dambulla Sixers.
The Jaffna franchise has won the LPL title thrice., They first won it when they were named Jaffna Stallions. Since they changed their name to Jaffna Kings, they have won the title twice in 2021 and 2022. The Galle Gladiators were the runners-up in the first two editions, Colombo starts in 2022 and Dambulla in 2023.
